ENGINE STORAGE
- When the engines are not for more than 6 months, they have to be protected performing the operations described in
the following pages.
- Iftheengineisnottobeusedforextensiveperiods,checkthestorageareaconditionsandthetypeofpackagingand
makesurethatthesearesuitableforcorrectstorage.
Ifnecessary,covertheenginewithaproperprotectivesheet.
- Avoidstoringtheengineindirectcontactwiththeground,inenvironmentsthatarehumidandexposedtobadweather,
nearhighvoltageelectriclines,etc.
Important
If, after the rst 6 months, the engine is still not used, it is necessary to carry out a further measure to extend the pro-
tection period (see “Protective treatment”).

PourintheenginehousingAGIPRUSTIACprotective
oiluptothemaximumlevel.
2 - Fillupwithfuelcontaining10%AGIPRUSTIANT.
3 - Makesurethatthecoolantisuptothemaximumlevel.
4 - Starttheengineandkeepitidleatminimumspeedfor
someminutes.
5 - Bringtheengineto¾ofthemaximumspeedfor5÷10
minutes.
6 - Turnofftheengine.
7 - Emptyoutcompletelythefueltank.
8 - SpraySAE10Wontheexhaustandintakemanifolds.
9 - Sealtheexhaustandintakeductstopreventforeign
bodiesfromentering.
10 - Thoroughlycleanallexternalpartsoftheengineusing
suitableproducts.
11 - Treatnon-paintedpartswithprotectiveproducts(AGIP
RUSTIANT).
12 - Loosenthealternator/fanbelt.
13 - Covertheenginewithaproperprotectivesheet.
Caution - Warning
In countries in which AGIP products are not available, nd
an equivalent product (with specications: MIL-L-21260C).
Important
Maximum every 24 months of inactivity, the engine must be
started up by repeating all “Engine Storage” operations.
Afterthestorageperiodandbeforestartinguptheengineand
preparingitforoperation,youneedtoperformcertainopera-
tionstoensuremaximalefciencyconditions.
1 - Removetheprotectivesheet.
2 - Removeanysealingdevicesfromtheexhaustandinta-
keducts.
3 - Useaclothsoakedindegreasingproducttoremovethe
protectivetreatmentfromtheexternalparts.
5 - Injectlubricatingoil(nomorethan2cm3)intotheintake
ducts.
6 - Adjustthealternator/fanbelttension.
7 - Turntheenginemanuallytocheckthecorrectmovement
andsmoothnessofthemechanicalparts.
8 - Rellthetankwithfreshfuel.
9 - Makesurethattheoilandthecoolantareuptothema-
ximumlevel.
10 - Starttheengineandaftersomeminutesbringitto¾of
themaximumspeedfor5-10minutes.
11 - Turnofftheengine.
12 - Removetheoildrainplug(see“Oilreplacement”)and
dischargetheAGIPRUSTIANTprotectiveoilwhilethe
engineishot.
13 - Pournewoil(see“Tableoflubricants”)uptothemaxi-
mumlevel.
14 - Replacethelters(air,oil,fuel)withoriginalspareparts.
15 - Empty the cooling circuit completely and pour in the new
coolantuptothemaximumlevel.
Caution - Warning
Over time, a number of engine components and lubricants
lose their properties, so it is important considering whether
they need replacing, also based on age (see Replacement
table).
Important
