14000 SERVICE MANUAL BOOM
4
PHYSICAL BOOM STOP
See Figure 4-3 for the following procedure.
Physical Boom Stop Angles
Physical boom stops (2) serve the following purposes:
• Assist in stopping the boom smoothly at any angle
above 77.6°.
• Assist in preventing boom rigging from pulling the boom
back when traveling or setting loads with the boom at
any angle above 77.6°.
• Assist in moving the boom forward when lowering the
boom from any angle above 77.6°.
• Provide a physical stop at 89.5°.
Operation
1. When the boom is raised to 77.6°, springs in boom stop
tubes begin to compress.
2. As the boom is raised higher, spring compression
increases to exert greater force against the boom.
3. If for any reason the boom is raised to 89.5°, boom stop
springs fully compress to provide a physical stop.
Adjustment
Struts (3) have slotted ends that do not require adjustment.
WARNING
Physical boom stops must be installed for all crane
operations.
Physical boom stops do not automatically stop the boom
at maximum operating angle. Automatic boom stop must
be installed and properly adjusted.
