WATER PUMP
Construction
Engine coolant
is
set in recirculation by the
water pump, a centrifugal
pump
mounted
on the
front end
of
cylinder block. The
pump
casing,
shaped like a bracket, is bolted
to
the front end
of
cylinder block and, by its protruding end,
holds the pump shaft through a double-row ball
bearing. The inner portion
of
the shaft carries
the pump impeller and the
outer
portion,
outside
of
the casing, carries a bracket, to which
the cooling fan
hub
and pulley are bolted.
The space between the two rows
of
balls,
surrounded by the casing,
is
filled with grease:
there
is
no need
to
give
lubricating attention to
this bearing. A seal unit
is
fitted to the shaft,
right next to the bearing,
to
isolate the coolant
space from the grease-filled space.
