Makesurethebatteryconnectionsaretightandfreeofcor-
rosion.Asolutionofbakingsodaandwatermaybeused
towashtheoutsidesurfaceandterminalsofthebattery
whennecessary.However,makesurethesolutiondoes
notgetinsidethebattery.Aftercleaning,washthebattery
withcleanwater,thenapplyasmallamountofpetroleum
jellytotheterminalstopreventcorrosion.
Infreezingtemperatures,agoodbatterychargemustbe
maintained.Ifthebatterybecomesdischargedorrun
down,theelectrolytebecomesweakandmayfreeze,
causingdamagetothecase.Ifyoumustaddwater,use
distilledwater.Addthewaterjustbeforeusingthetractor
sothatthewaterwillmixwiththeelectrolyteduringthe
chargingprocess,thuspreventingthewaterfromfreezing.
Todeterminethebatterycharge,checkthespecicgravity
oftheelectrolyte.
