STARTING
WARNING
Exhaust gases contain carbon
monoxide, which is extremely noxious if
inhaled.
Avoid starting the vehicle in closed or
badly-ventilated rooms. Failure to
observe this precaution can result in
loss of consciousness and death by
asphyxiation.
Do not sit on the vehicle when starting.
Do not start the vehicle while it is on the
side stand.
ELECTRIC STARTING
◆ Position the vehicle on the centre stand.
◆ Set the engine stop switch (1) to ≈∆
(where required by local legislation).
◆ Make sure the dimmer switch (2) is set to
≈∆.
◆ Turn the key (3) and set the ignition
switch to ≈∆.
CAUTION
At this time the engine oil pressure
warning light “ ” on the dashboard
will light up, and stay on until the
engine is started.
◆ Lock at least one wheel with one of the
brake levers (4). This sends electrical
power to the start relay to turn over the
starter motor.
NOTE If the vehicle has not been used
for a long time, proceed as indicated in
page 56 (STARTING AFTER A LONG
PERIOD OF INACTIVITY).
NOTE To avoid the excessive wear of
the battery, do not hold down the start push
button ≈∆ for more than five seconds (ten
if starting after long disuse). If in this time
the engine does not start, wait for ten
seconds and press the star push button
≈∆ again.
◆ Press the start push button “” (5)
without accelerating, and release it as
soon as the engine starts.
CAUTION
When the start push button is
pressed “ ”, the 2 stroke oil reserve
warning light “ ” lights up. When the
engine starts, release the start push
button “ ”, and the 2 stroke oil reserve
warning light “ ” should turn off; if it
stays on, top up the 2 stroke oil as
indicated at page 46 ( 2
STROKE OIL).
