CHECKING THE BRAKE PAD WEAR
Carefully read page 47 (BRAKE FLUID –
recommendations), page 48 (FRONT
DISC BRAKE) and page 63
(MAINTENANCE).
Check the wear of the brake
pads after the first 312 mi (500 Km) and
every 1250 mi (2000 Km) thereafter.
Check the wear of the brake pads
after the first 625 mi (1000 Km) and every
1250 mi (2000 Km) thereafter.
Disc brake pad wear depends on use,
driving style and type of road. Wear is
greatest when the vehicle is ridden on dirty
or wet roads.
WARNING
Check the brake pads for wear before
every trip.
To run a quick brake pad wear check,
proceed as follows:
◆ Place the vehicle on its centre stand.
◆ Remove the brake caliper cover (1).
◆ Visually check the brake disc and pads.
WARNING
The excessive wear of the friction
material would cause the contact of the
pad metal support with the disc, with
consequent metallic noise and
production of sparks from the caliper;
braking efficiency, safety and
soundness of the disc would thus be
negatively affected.
◆ If the braking surface thickness (even of
a single pad) is down to around 0.06 in
(1.5 mm) ( or if even one of the wear
indicators is no longer visible), replace
both pads.
