Check (and correct if necessary) the direction of rota-
tion of the servos for all control functions.
A brief press r on the 3-D digi-adjustor concludes the
setting process. The values are stored, and you can
continue with another servo.
Switching to another servo:
4 to EXIT, r (REV appears),
4 to EXIT, r (SERVO appears),
43 select servo r (CENTR appears),
3 to REV r (0 or 1 flashes)
The correct control response at the model:
Movement at the
Stick
Stick Control surface
RUDDER left left
ELEVATOR back (pull) up
AILERON left left aileron up
Note for V-tail models:
It is not necessary to check the direction of rotation
If your model features a V-tail, do not check the direc-
tion of rotation of servos 2 and 3 (elevator / rudder) at
this point. The directions of rotation can only be
checked and adjusted once the V-tail mixer has been
activated (Î 14.7.1.).
14.4.2. Adjusting the servo centre
Menu: (
SERVO) CENTR
Minor deviations in the control surface neutral position
can be corrected by adjusting the servo centre. Any
major deviation must first be corrected mechanically.
This is the procedure:
4 to MENU, r (SETUP appears),
3 to SERVO, r (SERVO1 appears),
43 select servo, r (CENTR appears),
r (the current value flashes)
The current setting for CENTRE flashes in the bottom
line. If you are setting up a new model, the centre is
always set to “0%” by default.
The centre can be set to any value in the range -100%
to 100% using the 3-D digi-adjustor.
A brief press r on the 3-D digi-adjustor concludes the
setting process. The value is stored, and you can con-
tinue with another servo.
14.4.3. Setting servo (control surface) travels
Menu: (
SERVO) TRAVL
The building instructions for your model should include
recommended control surface travels. In the TRAVEL
menu you can set the travels to the desired value “elec-
tronically”, separately for each side of centre.
Moving to the TRAVL menu:
4 to MENU, r (SETUP appears),
3 to SERVO, r (SERVO1 appears),
43 select servo, r (CENTR appears),
3 to TRAVL r
Travel of servo 1 for ...
... left stick ... right stick
The current value flashes in the bottom line. When you
set up a new model, the travel is always set by default
to 100% or -100% for both directions.
This is where you set the travel separately for both
directions of rotation.
a. Move the transmitter control which operates this
servo (e.g. a stick) to one end-point, and hold it
there.
You can now set the servo travel using the 3-D
digi-adjustor.
b. Move the transmitter to the opposite end-point and
hold it there.
You can now set the travel for the opposite direc-
tion using the 3-D digi-adjustor.
A brief press r on the 3-D digi-adjustor concludes the
process. The values are stored, and you can continue
with another servo.
14.5. Aileron mixers
(outboard wing control surfaces)
In the GLIDER model type the COCKPIT SX features a
four-input mixer for actuating the ailerons. The primary
input is aileron, but spoiler, flap and elevator can all be
superimposed on it. The result of the mixing process is
passed to servos 1 and 5.
TIP: before you start setting the mixer inputs, adjust
and correct the mechanical linkage to the control sur-
faces (neutral position and maximum travels).
The next step is to set the control servo exactly to cen-
tre “electronically” using the SERVO CENTRE menu,
and to set identical maximum deflections in the SERVO
TRAVEL menu.
Only after this should you dial in the individual mixer
inputs. This is important, as you will only be able to set
equal movements for all the control surfaces if the ba-
sic set-up is correct.
