20. Trainer mode operations
The COCKPIT SX can be used both as Teacher and
Pupil transmitter. The second transmitter must be an-
other MULTIPLEX unit.
On our website www.multiplex-rc.de you will find a
table of possible combinations which includes older
transmitters. Look under DOWNLOADS INSTRUC-
TIONS.
20.1. How does Trainer mode work?
The Teacher and Pupil transmitters are inter-connected
using a Trainer lead.
The Teacher transmitter must be set up in such a way
that it can control the model fully.
In the Pupil transmitter you have to activate Pupil mode
(if present).
The pupil assumes control of the model when the
teacher holds the TEACHER button pressed in. This
works because the control signals from the teacher‘s
sticks and sliders are replaced by the corresponding
signals from the Pupil transmitter.
The Teacher resumes control of the model the moment
he releases the TEACHER button.
What is selective Trainer mode?
Selective Trainer mode means that only individual (se-
lected) control functions can be transferred to the pupil.
In this way the absolute beginner could control, say,
just the rudder initially. All current MULTIPLEX trans-
mitters feature this facility.
The functions which the pupil is allowed to control are
determined in the ASSIGN menu (Î 20.3.4.).
Which Trainer mode should be used?
The C
OCKPIT SX must be operated with the Trainer
lead # 8 5121 (or # 8 5118 with a right-angled plug at
the Pupil end). This applies whether the transmitter is
used in Pupil mode or in Teacher mode.
20.2. The COCKPIT SX as Pupil transmitter
As Pupil transmitter, the COCKPIT SX can be connected
to the following MULTIPLEX transmitters:
C
OCKPIT SX
PROFI mc 4000, PROFI mc 3010 / 3030
ROYALevo 7 / 9 / 12
(see table on the Internet for more types)
This is the procedure for setting up the C
OCKPIT SX as
a Pupil transmitter:
1. Switch off both transmitters
.
2. Locate the plug marked PUPIL and connect it to the
multi-function socket on the C
OCKPIT SX.
Locate the plug marked TEACHER and connect it
to the multi-function socket on the Teacher trans-
mitter.
3. Switch on the Teacher transmitter only
!
The C
OCKPIT SX is fed current via the Trainer lead.
DIAGN flashes on the screen.
4. Use the 3-D digi-adjustor to select:
SCHULM = pupil for MULTIPLEX transmitter
e.g. C
OCKPIT SX,
PROFI mc 3010 / 3030 / 4000
Note: ROYALevo 7 / 9 / 12 as Teacher
The selected Teacher type at the ROYALevo must
be the same as the Pupil type at the C
OCKPIT SX.
ROYALevo COCKPIT SX
Lehrer M SCHULM
Lehrer U SCHULU
! Ensure that the operating mode is not changed
during the training procedure!
20.3. The COCKPIT SX as Teacher trans-
mitter
The following steps must be carried out before the
COCKPIT SX can be operated as a Teacher transmitter:
• Connect Teacher and Pupil transmitters Î 20.3.1.
• Activate TEACHER mode Î 20.3.2.
• Cross-check Pupil transmitter control
signals (neutral positions) Î 20.3.3.
• Assign the Pupil’s control functions Î 20.3.4.
20.3.1. Connect Teacher and Pupil transmitters,
then switch on the Teacher transmitter
! Leave the model switched off at this point!
This is the procedure:
1. Pupil transmitter remains OFF
The ON/OFF switch on the Pupil transmitter
must always be left at the OFF position during
Training operations (power is drawn from the
Teacher transmitter’s battery). This ensures
that the Pupil transmitter does not start trans-
mitting an RF signal (and cause interference)
even if the Trainer lead is accidentally discon-
nected (e.g. if one of the pilots stumbles).
