Before use
‒ Before the HF procedure, conrm its safety with a cardiologist or the manufacturer of the
implanted electronic device.
‒ For monopolar procedures, position the neutral electrode so that the current pathway
does not pass through or near the implanted electronic device and its lead system.
‒ Do not apply the HF instrument in close proximity to the implanted electronic device.
WARNING
Flammable anaesthetics and gases
If ammable gases, especially anaesthetics ignite, then they cause serious injuries to the
patient, the user and the medical personnel.
‒ Take precautionary measures to keep away ammable gases from the site of
intervention.
‒ Do not use ammable anaesthetics.
WARNING
Flammable materials
Sparks that occur during normal operation of the HF equipment can ignite ammable
materials, e.g. absorbent cotton, gauze or surgical drapes and also body hair. This can
result in serious injuries to the patient, the user and the medical personnel.
‒ Use soluble surgical lubricating jelly to cover hair close to the site of intervention.
‒ Do not apply materials like cotton or gauze simultaneously with the HF instrument to the
site of intervention.
WARNING
Irregularities and damage
Any irregularity or damage of the electrosurgical generator and its equipment compromises
the safety and can result in injury to the patient, the user and the medical personnel.
‒ Before every operation, inspect the electrosurgical generator as described in this
chapter.
‒ Before every operation, inspect all equipment for irregularity or damage.
‒ Do not use the electrosurgical generator if any irregularity or damage is suspected.
‒ Do not use the equipment if any irregularity or damage is suspected.
‒ Refer to the section “8.10 Troubleshooting” on page 78.
WARNING
Electrosurgical smoke
Electrosurgical interventions produce smoke. When unltered smoke is inhaled, then this
can affect the health of the user and the medical personnel.
‒ Wear high-ltration masks during the procedure.
‒ Make sure that a surgical smoke evacuator is used for the procedure.
‒ Make sure that adequate ventilation is provided.
WARNING
Capacitive coupling due hybrid trocar systems
When using monopolar active components then hybrid trocar systems, i.e. a combination of
metal and plastic, can cause alternate site burns due to an accidental energy transfer.
Only use all-metal or all-plastic trocar systems.
7.2 Inspection before use
7.2.1 Inspection regarding reprocessing
Make sure that the product has been properly reprocessed. Visually inspect the product
thoroughly. The product must be visually clean.
