8.8 Activating
WARNING
Baby neutral electrode setting
When using neutral electrodes for newborn (patient weight less than 5 kg), the function
[Baby neutral electrode] must be switched on. Otherwise, the electrosurgical generator can
not detect the current ow’s critical value of 350 mA. There is the risk of severe burns to the
baby patient.
Ensure that the function [Baby neutral electrode] is switched on, i.e. a baby symbol is
shown within the neutral electrode indicator.
Use the lowest power settings that are appropriate for the intended procedure.
Use short activation intervals, as this reduces the heating between the neutral electrode
and the baby’s skin to a minimum.
Refer to the section “6.3 Safety feature for baby neutral electrodes” on page 46.
Considerations before activating
Conrm that the displayed settings are correct for the intended procedure.
For monopolar treatments: Conrm that the CQM indicator for the neutral electrode is
green (or grey if a non-split type neutral electrode is used).
Make sure that the foot switch is assigned to the correct output socket.
Make sure to use the correct foot switch pedal, i.e. the yellow pedal for cutting and the
blue pedal for coagulation.
Make sure to use the correct hand switch, i.e. the yellow cutting hand switch and the
blue coagulation hand switch.
WARNING
Inadequate high output
Inadequate HF output, e.g. caused by a failure of the electrosurgical generator, can result in
death or serious injury to the patient.
Continuously watch the patient and the medical electrical equipment during use.
If any abnormality of the patient or the medical electrical equipment is observed stop the
application in a way that does not impair patient safety.
Immediately stop the application of HF current as soon as inadequate HF output is
observed.
If the foot switch or the hand switch of the instrument does not react, then use the power
switch on the ESG-410 as an emergency stop.
Considerations during activation
Make sure that the tip of the activated instrument is always visible in the endoscopic
image.
Store temporarily unused instruments in an electrically insulated container. Do not place
unused instruments on the patient.
Carefully clean eschar affected areas of the instrument. Refer to the instructions for use
of the instrument. If necessary, replace the instrument.
8.8.1 Functional principles of activating
Activating and stopping
Activation is possible only if the home screen or the set screen is displayed on the
touchscreen.
To activate depress the corresponding pedal on the foot switch or press the corresponding
hand switch of the instrument.
