Reprocessing of the ESG-410
10 Reprocessing of the ESG‑410
After each use, immediately perform the procedures as described in the following sections.
If cleaning is delayed, debris encrustation can become a source of infection. Encrustation
can also result in malfunction of the electrosurgical generator.
Sockets
Cleaning the sockets of the electrosurgical generator can deform and corrode the contacts
which will result in damage to the electrosurgical generator.
Do not clean the output sockets, the power socket or the foot switch sockets.
10.1 General information for reprocessing
The reprocessing cycle
Reprocess the product according to the instructions in this chapter.
Reprocess the product before each use.
Validated reprocessing methods
Validated means that the efcacy of the method or agent has been validated for
reprocessing the product as described in this document.
Use of reprocessing agents
The manufacturer must have approved the reprocessing agent for cleaning and disinfection
of medical devices and for the material to be reprocessed. Select contact times and
concentrations of the reprocessing agent according to the instructions given by the
manufacturer. The FDA, the EPA, the DGHM or a comparable institution must have
approved and validated the reprocessing agent for its efciency.
10.2 Cleaning
Suitable reprocessing agents for cleaning
Cleaning has been validated with an alkaline disinfectant based on low alcohol (<20%) and
quaternary ammonium compounds (Sani-Cloth® Plus manufactured by PDI Professional).
Cleaning procedure
Perform the following cleaning procedure after use. If necessary, let the product cool
down. If cleaning is delayed, debris will solidify and it can be difcult to effectively clean the
surfaces.
1. Take a soft, lint-free cloth that is soaked with a suitable reprocessing agent.
2. Thoroughly wipe the surfaces of the product until visibly clean.
3. In case of heavy soiling, use additional cloths.
4. Before disinfection, let the surfaces dry or wipe them dry using a lint-free cloth.
10.3 Disinfection
Suitable disinfectants
Low-level disinfection has been validated with an alkaline disinfectant based on low alcohol
(<20%) and quaternary ammonium compounds (Sani-Cloth® Plus manufactured by PDI
Professional at 3 minutes contact time).
