Monitoring
12-5
12.2.2 Precautions
WARNING
z The SpO
2
value might be overestimated in the presence of Hb-CO,
Met-Hb or dye dilution chemicals.
z Check if the sensor cable is in normal condition before monitoring. Do
not use the SpO
2
sensor once the package or the sensor is found
damaged.
z Verify sensor cable fault detection before beginning monitoring. Unplug
the SpO
2
sensor cable from the connector. The screen will display the
prompt information “SPO2 SENSOR OFF” and the audible alarm is
activated.
z ES (Electrosurgery) equipment wire and SpO
2
cable must not be tangled
up.
z Do not put the SpO
2
sensor on the limb with arterial catheter or venous
syringe.
z Do not perform SpO
2
and NIBP measurements on the same limb
simultaneously. Obstruction of blood flow during NIBP measurements
may adversely affect the reading of the SpO
2
value.
z Prolonged and continuous monitoring may increase the risk of burns at
the site of the sensor. It is especially important to check the sensor
placement, and ensure proper attachment on neonates and patients of
poor perfusion or skin sensitive to light. Check the sensor location every
2 to 3 hours and move to another location if the skin deteriorates. More
frequent examinations may be required for different patients.
