ELECTRICAL SYSTEM 7-9
INSPECTION
BATTERY CURRENT LEAK INSPECTION
• Remove the front seat. ( 6-8)
• Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
• Disconnect the battery
_
lead wire.
• Connect the multi circuit tester between the
_
terminal and
_
lead wire of the battery.
NOTE:
Leakage is evident if the leading is over 3mA.
09900-25008: Multi circuit tester set
Battery current leak: Under 3mA
Tester knob indication: Current (
, 20mA)
* Because the current leak might be large, turn the tester
to high range first to avoid tester damage.
* Do not turn the ignition switch to the ON position when
measuring current.
CHARGING OUTPUT INSPECTION
• Remove the front seat. ( 6-8)
• Start the engine and keep it running at 5 000 r/min. with lighting
switch turned ON and dimmer switch turned HI position.
Measure the DC voltage between the battery terminals
+
and
_
with the multi circuit tester. If the tester reads under 13.4 V or over
15.1 V, inspect the generator coil and regulator/rectifier.
NOTE:
When making this test, be sure that the battery is in fully-charged
condition.
09900-25008: Multi circuit tester set
Charging output (Regulated voltage):
13.5 – 15.0 V at 5 000 r/min.
Tester knob indication: Voltage (
)
When leakage is found, look for the part where the tester reads
under 3mA through the couplers and connectors by removing
them one by one.
