Clutch Inspection (LT-F400/F)
B827H10206031
Inspect clutch system
Every 2 000 km (1200 miles, 6 months)
The LT-F400/F is equipped with a centrifugal type
automatic clutch. To insure proper performance and
longevity of the clutch assemblies it is essential that the
clutches engage smoothly and gradually. Before
checking the initial engagement and clutch lock-up two
inspection checks must be performed to thoroughly
check the operation of the drive train.
Initial Engagement Inspection
1) Remove the left side cover. Refer to “Exterior Parts
Removal and Installation in Section 9D (Page 9D-
3)”.
2) Connect the tachometer or multi-circuit tester to the
spark plug high-tension cord.
3) Warm up the engine.
Special tool
: 09900–26006 (Engine tachometer (solar
cell type))
: 09900–25008 (Multi-circuit tester set)
4) Shift the transfer range lever to the “High” position
and the gear shift lever to the 1st gear position.
5) Slowly open the throttle and note the engine speed
(r/min) when the vehicle begins to move forward. If
the engagement speed does not coincide with the
standard range, inspect the clutch shoe and starter
clutch wheel. Refer to “Clutch Related Parts
Inspection (LT-F400/F) in Section 5C (Page 5C-6)”.
Initial engagement speed
1 500– 2000 r/min
Clutch Lock- Up Inspection
Perform this inspection to determine if the clutch is
engaging fully and not slipping.
1) Remove the left side cover. Refer to “Exterior Parts
Removal and Installation in Section 9D (Page 9D-
3)”.
2) Connect the tachometer or multi-circuit tester to the
spark plug high-tension cord.
3) Warm up the engine.
4) Shift the transfer range lever to the “High” position
and the gear shift lever to the 5th gear position.
5) Apply the front and rear brakes as firmly as possible.
6) Fully open the throttle for two seconds and note the
maximum engine speed sustained during the test
cycle. If the lock-up speed (r/min) does not coincide
with the standard range, inspect the clutch shoe and
clutch wheel. Refer to “Clutch Related Parts
Inspection (LT-F400/F) in Section 5C (Page 5C-6)”.
CAUTION
!
Do not apply full power for more than 5
seconds or damage to the clutch or engine
may occur.
Lock-up speed
3 300– 3 900 r/min
Drive Shaft Boots Inspection (LT-A400F, LT-
F400F)
B827H10206017
Inspect drive shaft boots
Initially at 200 km (100 miles, 1 month) and every 1
000 km (600 miles, 3 months) thereafter
Inspect the drive shaft boots for wear or damage. If any
defects are found, replace them with new ones.
