Assembling Spring Wheel

Springs.
When the pads have been fitted correctly the case should be split again
and re-assembled with the springs.
Place the axle and guide on the bench, with
the longer side of the axle to the left and the convex side uppermost.
Lubricate and
insert the heavy and light springs in the bottom hole, with the curvature of the springs
conforming to the guide. Place the other spring in the top hole in the same way.
Fit
the rubber buffers and spring plates to the springs, with the plate curve con-
forming to the guide.
,Fit
the assembly into the jig, the two springs being in the
lower position.
Depress the jig sufficiently to allow the cases to be fitted.

fit
the casings, then release the jig and remove the assembly.

with lubricant through the gap in the cases and tap the cases together with a
hide hammer.
Fir and tighten the six nuts and bolts.
NOTE: the top rear bolt
and the bottom front bolt are made from
H.T.
steel: colour blue-black.
RE-ASSEMBLING THE ANCHOR PLATE ASSEMBLY
Brake Cam Spindle.
Grease the spindle and
fit
to the anchor plate. Fit the
return spring and lever arm, making certain that the lever arm
is
in the correct
position. Fit the remaining nut and tighten.
Brake Shoes. Place the brake shoes on the bench in the position they will occupy
in the brake plate. Fit the springs and holding them in tension, place the shoes over
the cam and pivot.
Press down and snap into position.
RE-ASSEMBLING THE REAR SPRING WHEEL
Bearings. Fully load the bearings with grease (See Recommended Lubricants) and
assemble to the back plate and brake drum. Ensure that the bearing chip shield in
each case, faces towards the hub centre.
Hub
Shell Bolts.
Fit
all the bolts to each side of the hub shell
Brake Drum. Assemble the brake drum to the hub and lock the nuts with new
locking plates.
Spring Box Assembly. Fit the assembly into the hub and press well home into
the brake drum side bearings.
Shims. Fit the shims to the hub, making sure that as many shims are replaced, as
were removed.
End Plate. Replace the end plate and bearing and tighten up the nuts securely.
Slipper Roller, R.H. Grease the slipper pads and spindle on the back plate side
and
fir
the slipper roller.
