Air Filter
Swinging
Arm
Frame Models. To service the filter on these models, the oil tank
must first be detached. This operation necessitates the removal of the three fixing
bolts and disconnection of the oil pipes. Disconnect the rubber sleeve and remove
the air filter.
To remove the element on the
"D"
shaped filter, unscrew the two screws securing
the cover, when the latter can be removed and the element extracted. The "fiat"
type, simply remove the cover
to which the element
is
attached.
Every
5000
miles
(3,000
kms.), the filter element should be removed and washed
in petrol until all road dust is extracted. Put the element in a convenient place to
dry ofi.
In
extreme conditions (dust, sand, etc.) rhis servicing should be at more
frequent intervals. When dry, re-oil the element with "Vokes Trifiltrene" filter
oil.
If this is unobtainable
SAE
20 grade oil may be used.
The
filter
element should be changed every 10,000 miles (15.000 kms.) and in countries
where dusty conditions prevail the change should be made at more frequent intervals.
This procedure
is
most important
as
a choked filter will cause loss of performance
and heavy petrol consumption.
The maximum power output with the air filter attached,
is
very little affected, but
if the absolute maximum
is
required for the T100
&
T110 models, remove the rubber
sleeve and increase the main jet
as
follows:-
TI00
&
TR5
...
...
Replace 220 with 240
TI10
...
...
...
Replace 250 with 270
DO
NOT remove the
filter
sleeve from the
S.U.
carburetter (See page 155 for
further information).
