Removing the Engine from the Fro
Dynamo.
Remove the terminal wires and the domed nut on the timing cover.
Slacken the clip screw and withdraw the dynamo.
except the. lower front.
Rear Engine Plates.
Remove the two front top studs and nuts and slacken the
remainder.
Engine.
Tilt
the engine towards the rear of the machine and swing forward the
front engine plate.
The engine can now be llfted out of the frame.
REMOVING THE ENGINE FROM
THE
FRAME
(SWINGING ARM FRAME MODELS)
Twinseat. Remove front and slacken the rear securing bolts; detach twinseat.
Petrol Tank.
Turn off the petrol taps, disconnect the petrol pipes, unscrew the
four tank bolts and remove the tank.
Exhaust System.
Remove the exhaust pipe and silencer zssemblies by slackening
the finned clip bolts and removing the bracket and silencer bolts.
Torque Stays.
Slacken the frame lug bolt, unscrew the stay to engine bolt nuts,
when the stays can be removed from the engine.
Control Cables.
Disconnect the magneto and throttle cable at handlebar and the
air cable at rear stays (under twinseat). Neatly loop the cables as close
as
possible
to their respective engine fitting.
Footrests. Remove both footrests but leave the spindle in position.
Footbrake Pedal. Take out the split-pin securing the operating rod to the pedal
and then unscrew the pedal spindle nut when the pedal can be withdrawn after
disengaging the stop lamp switch spring.
Primary Chaincase. Alternator, Clutch and Engine Sprocket. Remove these
parts
as
described on page
83.
Oil
Pipes. Place an oil drip tray under the engine and disconnect the engine
oil pipes at the crankcase and the rocker feed pipe at the rocker box spindles.
Dynamo. Remove the terminal wires and the dome nut on the timing cover.
Front Fngine Plates.
Place a box of suitable height under the crankcase so that
the sump plate rests on
it.
Remove the nuts from the two upper studs. The studs
can then be driven out and the cover plate removed. Slacken the dynamo clip screw
and withdraw the dynamo from the housing. Remove the remaining studs ro
release the front engine plates.
Rear Engine Plates.
Here
it
is
only necessacy to deal with the engine plates to
crankcase studs.
Remove the two top studs and nuts and slacken off the nuts
securing the lower stud.
Engine. Remove the box and
tilt
the englne towards the rear of the machine
when the lower crankcase stud wi!l disengage itself from the engine plates.
Lift
the engine out of the frame housing.
