TAPPET
ADJUSTMENT
(stt

I)
(Models ST, 6T
&
TIM))
I
These models are fitted with camshafts employing a Ramp-Cam form which makes
it
necessary
to
maintain
a
0.010" (0.26 mm.) clearance (COLD), between the valve
I
rocker adjusting pin and the valve tip in order to ensure silent operation and
maximum efficiency. If the clearance
is
appreciably iess the valve timing will be
affected resulting in loss of power and the possibility of burnt valves.
Models TI10
&
TR5
These models have high-lift czmshafts and no silencing ramps are incorporated in the
cam form. The tappet adjustment, therefore, differs from the other models, the
inlet being set at 0.002" (0.05 mm.) and the exhaust at 0.004" (0.10 mm.).

Rocker Box Inspection Caps.
Remove all four from the rocker boxes.
Positioning the Valves. This operation
is
made easier by
first
removing the
sparking plugs.
Turn the engine
by
the kickstarter until the timing side exhaust
valve
is
fully open. This ensures that the other exhaust valve tappet
is
making
conract with the base of the cam and no error can be made when checking or
re-adjusting
it.
Tools. In the toolkit, t,~o spanners are provided for this adjustment. (See Fig. 8).
