Tighten up the clip connections.
It
is now time to attach the third,
and if fitted, the fourth point connection.
Here again leave the clip pinch bolts loose.
Set the machine slightly out
.af
the
vertical, leaning away from the sidecar about
5
degrees, then tighten all fittings.
Test the outfit on the road with a passenger in the sidecar or an equivalent load
and ascertain
its
steering qualities. if possible use a road with a flat surface; if not
available use the crown of the road. If the outfit pulls to one side of the road or
the other, check the amount of toe-in again and make sure that the sidecar wheel is
as near as possible in alignment with the rear wheel of the machine. Should the
sidecar have a tendency to lift easily on left hand bends, lean the machine more to
the vertical.
If these few precautions are taken during fitting, the rider will be amply repaid in
comfort and a reduction in general wear and tear.
CLEANING MOTORCYCLE
A clean motorcycle not only gives pride of ownership, but also assists the owner
in maintaining
his
machine in
first
class condition.
There are on the market extremely good cleaning solvents lor removing
oil
and
road dirt from the exterior of the machine, and they can be obtained from most
accessory dealers. The preparation should be applied with
a
1"
paint brush to the
machine which must be dry and about
5
minutes allowed to elapse in order that
it
can penetrate the oily surfaces.
It
should then be washed off with water from a
watering can; the reason the latter
is
used
is
to enable the operator to direct a
controlled stream of water thus avoiding trouble such as water in the brakes and
ignition faults.
If the air cleaner
is
disconnected the carburetter should be suitably
covered to stop any ingress of water.
After completion of
this work the surplus
moisture should be removed with a chamois leather, and when all surfaces are dry
a
good polish should be applied. For a quick finish a liquid cleaner called "FLAZPOL"
gives excellent results and
is
also a good preservative. For a lasting finish a good
wax polish should be used and at each stage of the cleaning, always use soft dusters
