Adjusting the idle
- The engine does not require frequent idle speed
adjustments, but it is essential to strictly follow cer-
tain rules when adjusting the idle speed.
- Before adjusting the carburettor make sure that
the lubrication requirements and valve clearance
are met, timing is respected, the spark plug is in
optimum conditions, the air filter is clean and
sealed, and the exhaust system is sealed.
- Warm up the engine letting it run at 50 Km/h for
at least 5 minutes.
- Connect the multimeter thermometer (020331y)
to the sump, using a cap with oil expressly pre-
pared for probes.
- Start the engine and before adjusting idle speed,
make sure that the oil temperature is between
70÷80 °C
- Using the rpm indicator or any other instrument
(020332y), adjust the idle screw to obtain 1600
rpm ÷ 1700 rpm.
NOTE
THE WASTED SPARK IGNITION SYSTEM OFFERS RE-
MARKABLE POWER. READINGS MAY NOT BE ACCU-
RATE IF INADEQUATE RPM INDICATORS ARE USED.
CORRECT COUPLING OF THE RPM INDICATOR WILL BE
INDICATED WHEN IT CAN ALSO READ RPM OVER 6000 ÷
8000
