First, second and reverse gears are machined on
shaft gears. The speed gears all have clutch teeth
L
the shaft. Third, fourth and fifth speed gears ride
and cones, which are used to equalize shaft speeds
on caged needle bearings that rotate on the shaft
during shifts. The clutch teeth engage with the syn-
journals. All of the forward gears are helical-type
chronizer sleeves and the cones engage with the
gears, and are in constant mesh with the output
stop rings during a shift.
