Chapter 6: Fishfinder application 81
Measuring depth and distance
The fishfinder display gives you various methods of measuring
depth and distance:
• Depth reading - your current depth. The size and position of this
readout can be changed in the Fishfinder display Setup menu
(see page 84).
• Depth lines - horizontal dashed lines drawn at regular intervals
to indicate the depth from the surface. These are switched on/off
in the Fishfinder Display Setup menu (see page 84).
• Depth Target ID - depths noted against recognized targets. The
sensitivity of these IDs is directly linked to the Fish Alarm sensi-
tivity; the greater the fish alarm sensitivity, the greater the
number of labelled returns. These targets are switched on/off in
the Fishfinder Display Setup menu (see page 84).
• Cursor depth - the depth and the distance from your boat
marked by the cursor, is indicated in the data bar at the top of
the screen. This performs in a similar way to a VRM, but without
lines.
• VRMs - to indicate the distance behind your boat and the depth
below of selected objects.
Note: When multiple fishfinder windows are open, we recommend
you have the depth reading displayed in at least one window.
Measuring depth and distance with VRM
You can use a Variable Range Marker (VRM) to determine the depth
and distance-behind-boat of an object. These markers consist of a
horizontal (depth) line and a vertical (distance-behind-boat) line;
each of which are marked with the appropriate measurement and
are controlled individually.
