7.7 ABRIS Results
When the pass criteria have been reached, the result “PASS will be shown on the screen.
Note A “PASS” result will not necessarily mean that the full auditory system is normal. A full audiologic ex-
amination should be performed if there are other indications that the patient has a hearing impairment.
If the pass criteria is not reached, the result REFER will be shown on the screen. The “REFER” result does
not necessarily mean absence of hearing, it might relate to fluid in the middle ear after birth. However, the
patient should be referred to an audiological “follow up” examination by experts, unless there is a possibility
of an error during the test. In this case, you should do a retest before you refer the patient to a follow up.
Pass/Refer test – at 40dB nHL (30,35,40dB nHL can be used)
