The Google Chromecast Audio is a specialised product from
Google’s line of digital media players that is designed to provide
casted stereo-audio playback over a 3.5mm or optical connection to
an aux input, in contrast to the HDMI connection used on the rest
of the Chromecast product range.
The tiny 2” round device is designed to evoke the image of a
vinyl record and ships with everything you need to get started – the
unit itself, a 3.5mm cable and a microUSB power supply. It’s small
enough to fit anywhere, yet has excellent reception on it’s dual-
band Wi-Fi. Note that the connector on the unit is a analogue /
optical hybrid, but only the 3.5mm cable is included in the standard
package, while the optical cable is a £15 option.
