Since the launch of the Chromecast Audio, Google has taken
adoption of its Google Cast protocol for audio-only use much more
seriously. The protocol, which also underpins the audio streaming
functionality on Google Home devices, is now supported by a
vast range of applications across both Android and iOS and most
importantly, can now enable multiroom audio streaming. This
development has been considered vital in order for Google Cast
enabled speakers (also known as ‘Chromecast built-in’) to compete
with other multiroom platforms such as Sonos.
In order to use the multiroom functionality, you’ll need more
than one Google Cast audio-enabled product connected to
the same Wi-Fi network. This can include your Google Home,
Chromecast Audio devices or third party Google Cast enabled
speakers. After you have your devices set up you can start your first
group by choosing one of the devices in the list and pressing the
Set up
