Where to start
The free tier of Spotify and the
paid version of Deezer are fully
supported options; YouTube
is also supported when
connected to a device with
a screen, like a Chromecast
or Android TV. Google Home
does allow multiple providers.
The usual command will play
music using your default
provider, but if you have
multiple services configured,
you can ask Google Home
to use that for playback, with
a command like ‘Play [song
name] using Spotify.
As well as requesting
individual songs using Google
Home, a powerful feature supported by many of the connected
services is the ability to use playlists, which can be requested by
name. Using Google Play Music, playlists can consist not only of
tracks that are available on the service, but tracks can be uploaded
manually too – perfect if you have some obscure music not
available on the service. A point to note is that while you can use
the standard audio controls when listening to a playlist, you can’t ask
Google Home to skip to a specific track within the playlist.
Extra services
In addition to the main music services, Google Home supports
radio too. This can be either using dedicated apps for the service
you want to listen to (BBC Radio and Capital Radio are examples of
this), but also using apps that cover a broad range of radio stations –
