sources that you do not want to listen to just tap the ‘X’ next to
them and then tap ‘Add news sources’. A long list of news services
will appear with a country and language displayed at the top.
Tapping this will help narrow down the service you want to use, but
we would advise to scroll through the list to see what is available.
The BBC and beyond
There will be BBC services included in the list such as BBC Minute
and BBC News Summary (for world news) and each of these can
be ticked so that you can have them play when you next ask
Google Home for the latest news. The result will be a consistent
news update when you wake up in the morning, and all of the
information you need will be presented to you without you having
to touch any device at all. There is a sense that Google is aiming
to offer the broadest possible news source repository, which is
obviously an advantage, but it can mean that accessing your
preferred news service in-depth is not so easy to do, with just the
headlines available to read on Google Home. This, however, does
not mean that you will miss out, because there are other ways to
get BBC content through Google Home and you shouldn’t see one
solution as the only one when multiple ones can work together to
give you what you need. With a bit of tweaking, you have the ability
to get your Google Home to present the news to you in almost
exactly the way you want.
Ultimately, if you undertake a little setup in the Google Home
app you will be able to access the headlines you want at any
time, which makes your Google Home device a little more useful
each day thanks to its ability to deliver content at the time of your
choosing. A radio cannot do this, and having the news read out
on phones is not so convenient, so spend a few minutes setting it
up and you will get what you want from the BBC using just your
Google Home device.
