INSTALLATION AND ALIGNMENT OF OPTICS
Important Considerations
1, The Straightness Interferometer must be located between the laser Head and the Straight-
ness Reflector in the laser beam.
The sequen
ce of Optics along the la se r beam is -

• Turning Mirror (required for Vertical -ax is measurements only )
• Straightness Re lr oreflec tor
• Interferometer
• Refle cto r
2. The R el r oreflector / lnterferometer must be mounted where the tool mounts. The Reflector
must be mounted where the workpiece mount s.
3. Vibrations and loose connections must be minimized by proper mounting . Avoid long
extensions. Make sure that all supports arc co mpletely stationary. A s pindle , for example,
must be secured by a brake so it won 't rotate. ( If a brake isn't available try using a hose clamp
or a wedge .)
4. The la se r beam must be returned to the top pori on the la ser Head's turret, no. to the bottom
(return) porI.
5. The Optics mu sI be aligned 10 the La se r beam well e nough to keep the Beam Strength
indi c aTor in The green region along the enlire optics' paTh.
6. The OptiCS must be aligned TO The la se r beam well e nough to eliminate "slope" if the HP
Dimensional Metrology Analys is System isn't used.
