CONNECTING AN HP PERSONAL COMPUTER AND/ OR
AN HP PLOTTER TO THE MEASUREMENT DISPLAY
The HP ~ I B ( Hew l e ll ~ Packard Interface Bu s) connec1or a llow s the la se r Measurement Sys tem's
capabilities to be in creased by the addilion of other equipment .
In this c ase, the other equipmen t you might connect here would be -
• an HP Personal Compute r,
• a compatible Digital Plotter.
An HP Per sonal Co mputer is part of the HP Dimensional Metrology Analysis Sys tem (which
includ
es the software requir ed to make the Computer work wi th I he laser Measurement System ).
The Dimensional Metrology Analysis Syste m is documented in a manual of it s own.
A Digital Plotter requir es that the HP Per so nal Computer be connected to the laser Measurement
Sys tem. The Plotter wil l not work with a laser Measurement System tha t does not have an HP
Pe rsonal Computer connected to it .
1. Make sure that the HP Per so nal Co mputer and the Plotter a re correctly se t up to operate fr om
the line vohage avai lable at yo ur site, then connect each of them to the power line.
2. Connect the HP ~ I IJ connectors of all units in the syslem togcther, using one or two HP ~ I IJ cables.
Figure 5-4 shows wh ere the HP ~ I B connector islocaled on the Measurement Di s pla y unit 's rear
panel.
If you cannot find the I- I P ~ tB connec tor on your I- IP Persona l Computer or Plotter,and have not
been able 10 find Ihe required loca tion inf ormation in their r es pecti ve Operating Manual s,
co ntad yo ur local Hcwletl ~ Packard Sales and Service Offic e for a ss istance.
The
H P ~ IIJ cable connectors includ es locking sc rews to lock them togcther. Wh en you have
connected
ea ch ca ble to to its mating connector, beginning wilh the connector on the
Meas
ur ement Displ ay unit' s rear panel, tighten the l oc king screws; this will keep the ca bl es from
accidentally corning loose.

CAUTION
To preve nt possible damage to the Measurement D is play unit , be
