3.2.3 Attaching to the PTO Shaft
Procedure
1. If PTO-driven implements are connected to
the swinging drawbar, the drawbar must be
set so that the horizontal distance (A)
between the end of the PTO shaft and the
pin hole in the end of the drawbar is 356
mm.
2. Unscrew and remove the PTO cap and store
it in the tool box for future use.
3. Attach the PTO shaft to the splined shaft on
the tractor. Ensure that the locking device
has securely retained the shaft.
4. Ensure that all the guards are in place. A hole
is provided for the PTO driveline shield chain
to prevent it from rotating.

DANGER: The machine has many mechanical parts that move.
The parts that move can hit persons.
Do not go in the dangerous areas of the machine during operation. The operator of the
machine must make sure that no person goes in the dangerous areas during operation.
With the PTO switch engaged, do not engage the clutch at engine speeds more than than 1600 rpm. Make
sure that you fully engage the clutch, or fully disengaged. A not fully engaged, or a slowly engaged clutch
can cause damage to internal components.
Before you disengage the PTO, always decrease the engine speed to idle to prevent damage of the PTO
brake. Do not stop the PTO at a high rpm. This can cause damage or wear the brake when you use high
inertia implements.
If speed selection from the neutral position is not easy to engage, engage and disengage the PTO clutch.
Economical mode 540/540E PTO
With implements that operate at 540 rpm and when you do work with light loads, if the implement absorbs
power that is 10% lower than the maximum tractor power or more, use the economical mode PTO.
