3 Mounting the AC 800F
3-23
3.3.5 Mounting Ethernet modules
The Ethernet modules EI 801F, EI 802F and EI 803F and EI 811F, EI 812F and
EI 813F are used to establish a communication link with the operator station level via
the system bus. The term Ethernet represents LANs to DIN ISO 8802, Part 3
(corresponding to ISO 8802-3 and ANSI/IEEE STD 802.3).
The following Ethernet modules are available:
• 10Base2 module EI 801F
The 10Base2 standard (Cheapernet) is based on a thin coax. cable (type RG58U).
It is used for small networks over short distances within one building, and with only
few nodes connected via 10Base2 F-connectors. Refer to Section 4.2 for details.
• AUI module EI 802F
Using an AUI (Attachment U
nit
Interface) provides more
flexibility in terms of the usable
cable structure. All Ethernet-
compatible structures are
possible, depending on the
type of directly connected
transceiver.
• 10BaseT module EI 803F
The 10BaseT (twisted pair)
standard uses twisted-pair
cables. A star-type bus
topology is used. Possible
applications are short-distance
networks (not between
buildings). The number of
nodes can be increased by
using hubs.
Note that no battery buffering is ensured when using the Ethernet
modules EI 801F, EI 802F or EI 803F together with a CPU board
PM 803F.
Use the Ethernet modules EI 811F, EI 812F or EI 813F instead.
