8.7 Switching on and switching off
This chapter describes the actions for switching the motor on and off for the first time.
Precondition
The motor is switched on and off at the frequency converter.

Note
EMERGENCY OFF
To avoid accidents, inform yourself about the EMERGENCY OFF function before you switch
on the system.
● Ensure that the frequency converter is correctly parameterized.
● Use appropriate commissioning tools, such as "Startdrive" or "Starter"
● Switch on the cooling system.
Procedure
Switching on
1. Switch on the motor at the frequency converter.
2. Observe any uneven running and abnormal noise of the motor.
3. Check the function of the motor cooling system.
4. Check the function of the safety equipment.
5. Check as to whether the motor reaches the required parameters.
Switching off
● Switch off the motor at the frequency converter.

Commissioning of motors with variable star-delta changeover
The contactors for star-delta switching can be controlled via the drive (SINAMICS S120) or
the control system (PLC).
For circuit design and parameterization refer to the information in the SINAMICS S120 Drive
Function Manual (Chapter 12.5) or SINUMERIK 840D sl PLC Function Manual.
