Chapter 3: Programming
84 EST iO64 and iO500 Technical Reference Manual
Getting started
Your control panel can be programmed using either of two
methods. First, you can use the panel’s LCD display and control
buttons. Second, you can use the optional configuration utility (CU)
software on a PC. If you are using the configuration utility, refer to its
online help system for complete programming instructions.
When programming the panel using the LCD display and control
buttons, there are four methods you can use:
Auto programming: You can auto program the panel using the
standard factory default settings along with some manual
programming. Auto programming allows you to quickly
program a panel as a common alarm system. When auto
programming, you have the option to label devices and zones,
define the type of dialer, etc. To auto program the panel, see
"Factory default settings" and the auto programming section for
more information.
Note: When auto programming, the current configuration is
lost, meaning that anything you previously programmed is
erased. See "Auto programming the panel" for more
information.
Advanced programming (custom programming): You can
manually custom program the panel by going through each
programming option and selecting a value for that option. See
the advanced programming section for more information.
Incremental programming: Incremental programming should
be used only after the panel has been programmed using either
auto programming or advanced programming. Incremental
programming allows you to add and label devices and zones in
the existing database and does not affect anything that was
previously programmed. Incremental programming is typically
used to add or remove an additional loop of devices or a large
number of devices to your system without changing anything
else in the database. See "Incremental programming the panel"
for more information.
Adding and removing a device to a programmed system: You
can add (or remove) an additional device or several devices to a
system that has already been programmed without going into
programming mode. Once the device is installed, the panel
recognizes it as a new device and indicates on the LCD display
that there is an unconfigured device with a "trouble active"
event. The device can then be programmed and added to the
database. This method is typically used to add or remove just a
couple of devices, not an entire loop of devices. See "Adding a
