10.1 Preventing Electrostatic Discharge
The static electricity on fingers or other electrical conductors may damage the mainboard or
other electrostatic-sensitive devices and shorten the product life.
Observe the following:
l Place unused products into ESD bags to prevent direct contact with humans during
transportation and storage.
l Before products arrive at an ESD area, store them in their own packages.
l Place the product package on a grounded surface before taking out the product.
l Do not touch pins, wires, or integrated circuits.
10.2 Grounding Methods to Prevent Electrostatic
Discharge
Use one or more of the following grounding methods when handling or installing
electrostatic-sensitive components:
l Use a wrist strap that connects to a grounded workplace or server chassis. The wrist strap
must be elastic and the resistance must be at least one ohm (±10%). To provide proper
grounding, wear the strap snug against the skin.
l Use heel straps, toe straps, or boot straps in standing workplaces. Wear the straps on both
feet when standing on conductive floors or dissipating floor mats.
l Use conductive field service tools.
l Use a portable field service kit with a folding static-dissipating work mat.
