7.1 CMOS Clear and Password Reset Usage Procedure
The CMOS Clear (J1E6) and Password Reset (J1E4) recovery features are designed to achieve
the desired operation with minimum system down time. The usage procedure for these two
features has changed from previous generation Intel
®
server boards. The following procedure
outlines the new usage model.
7.1.1 Clearing the CMOS
1. Power down the server and unplug the AC power cord.
2. Open the server chassis. For instructions, see your server chassis documentation.
3. Move the jumper (J1E6) from the default operating position (covering pins 1 and 2) to
the reset/clear position (covering pins 2 and 3).
4. Wait five seconds.
5. Move the jumper back to the default position, covering pins 1 and 2.
6. Close the server chassis and reconnect the AC power cord.
7. Power up the server.
The CMOS is now cleared and you can reset it by going into the BIOS setup.
7.1.2 Clearing the Password
1. Power down the server. Do not unplug the power cord.
2. Open the chassis. For instructions, see your server chassis documentation.
3. Move the jumper (J1E4) from the default operating position (covering pins 1 and 2) to
the password clear position (covering pins 2 and 3).
4. Close the server chassis.
5. Power up the server and then press <F2> to enter the BIOS menu to check if the
password is cleared.
6. Power down the server.
7. Open the chassis and move the jumper back to its default position (covering pins 1 and
2).
8. Close the server chassis.
9. Power up the server.
The password is now cleared and you can reset it by going into the BIOS setup.
