9.26Checking chain wear

– Shift into neutral, and pull the lower chain section with the specified weight.

Guideline

Weight of chain wear measurement 15kg (33lb.)

– Measure distance of 18 chain segments of the lower chain section.

Chain wear is not always even, so you should repeat this measurement at differ-

ent chain positions.

Maximum distance at the longest sec-

tion of the chain

272mm (10.71in)

» If distance is greater than the specified measurement:

– Have the chain changed.

Info

When the chain is replaced, the rear sprocket and engine sprocket

should be replaced at the same time.

A new chain will wear faster on an old, worn rear sprocket or engine

sprocket.

For safety reasons, the chain has no chain joint. Always have the chain

changed in an authorized KTM workshop, where they have the necessary

special tools.

  The engine may not turn when the starter button is pressed due to several reasons: it could be an operating error, the battery might be discharged (in which case, recharge the battery and check for the cause of discharging), a fuse (1, 2, 3, or 4) could be blown (then change the fuses), the main fuse might be burned out (then change the main fuse), there may be a defect in the ignition/steering lock or emergency OFF switch (then have it checked), a defect in the safety start system (then have the safety start system checked), or there is no ground connection present (then check the ground connection).

  If the engine dies during a journey, it could be due to a lack of fuel (refuel), a blown fuse (1, 2, or 4, so change the fuses), a bent engine vent hose (route the vent hose without bends or change it if necessary), or an engine oil level that is too high (check the engine oil level).
