6. Remove the bolt that attaches the rear bearing carrier
to the upper A-arm.
7. Slide the rear drive shaft out of the bearing carrier by
pulling the bearing
carrier assembly outward and
tipping it down to remove the shaft.
8. Grasp the rear drive shaft and pull sharply outward on
the
shaft to disengage it from the rear gearcase.
NOTE: Take care when removing to prevent
da
maging the seal.
9. Inspect axle splines and CV boots for any damage.
Outer CV Joint / Boot Replacement
1. Use a side cutters to cut and discard the boot clamps.
2. Remove the large end of the boot from the CV joint
and
slide the boot down the shaft.
3. Clean the grease from the face of the joint.
4. Place the drive shaft in a soft-jawed vise. Using a soft-
fa
ced hammer, or brass drift, strike the inner race of
the joint to drive the joint off the drive shaft. Be sure
to tap evenly around the joint to avoid binding.
IMPORTANT: Tap on inner race only!
