Description
3.3.7 Mechanical drive system
The pedelec is driven by muscle power, just like a
bicycle.
The force which is applied by pedalling in the
direction of travel drives the front chain wheel.
The chain or belt transmits the force onto the rear
chain wheel and then onto the rear wheel.

The pedelec is equipped with either a chain or belt
drive.

The chain drive is compatible with a
• Back-pedal brake,
• Hub gear or
• Derailleur gears.

A belt drive is compatible with
• Back-pedal brake and
• Hub gear.
A belt drive is not compatible with derailleur gears.
