Logs and Alerts
The Logs feature enables the switch to keep several, independent logs. Each
log is a set of entries that record system events.
It contains the following topics:
•Overview
•Logs
• Login History
• Remote Log Servers
Overview
System logs record events and report errors or informational messages. Some
aspects of system logging can be configured, as described below.
The following types of log messages can be generated:
•
Urgent
— If the device is down or not functioning properly, an urgent log
message is generated. Urgent messages include emergency, alert and
critical level messages.
•
Major
— An alert log is saved if there is a serious device malfunction, for
example, all device features are down. Major messages include error and
warning level messages.
•
Information
— Provides device information to which you do not have to
respond. Information messages include notice and informational level
messages.
•
Debug
— Provides debugging messages.
Some events are automatically logged, such as hardware problems. You may
enable/disable logging of events i
n the Logs page and logins in the Login
History
page
