Appendix C: Dispenser Current Loop & T7 Payment Terminal
Connections
C.1 General
This section describes the data connections between the dispenser and the Payment Terminal inside
of the dispenser, to the devices that control them. General layouts are provided to give an overall
layout when using a forecourt controller. The specific wiring drawings are for Wayne Forecourt
controllers and show the connections between the dispenser/payment terminal and the controller.
The Installation manual of the Forecourt Controller should be used in conjunction with what is
provided in this manual.
C.2 General Notes
1. All equipment to be installed in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal
codes, including, but not limited to, the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70), the
Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code (NFPA 30), and the Code for Motor Fuel
Dispensing Facilities and Repair Garages (NFPA 30A).
2. For wiring connections other than Ethernet, use wires rated at least 90
o
C, 600V, Gas and
Oil Resistant, stranded 18 AWG. The use of twisted pair cables can enhance
communication for longer distances.
3. When wiring is specified as Class 2 wiring, it should never be mixed in common conduits,
raceways or junction boxes with Class 1 wiring. This includes Ethernet, speaker and call
button wires as a minimum.
4. In order to operate a payment terminal as an EMV (secure payment) device, a high-
speed Ethernet connection is required. The Ethernet connection can be accomplished by
a hardwired Ethernet line, or through an external Wayne Connect Wireless solution. The
iX Pay secure payment terminal can be installed and used without a high-speed
connection, but it will only operate in an EPP (non-EMV) mode. To operate in the EPP
mode, the RS485 connections must be made to the Wayne iX Pay secure payment
terminal. A high-speed Ethernet connection is required for Wayne iSense
TM
remote
monitoring, Wayne iX Media
TM
platform, and Wayne inOvationTV
TM
media.
5. In order for a payment terminal to operate in any mode other than EMV, an RS485
connection is required.
