8.3.6 Pole posion idencaon without movement
If a permanent-magnet synchronous motor is driven by the inverter, a "pole posion iden-
caon (PLI)" is required for an opmum and jerk-free starng torque. In the default seng, a
pole posion idencaon is executed aer each inverter enable. If the pole posion iden-
caon is deacvated, the motor may briey rotate backwards before starng or stall if the
starng torque is too high.
NOTICE
With an incorrect parameter seng and dimensioning of the inverter, the maximum permissi-
ble motor current may be exceeded during the pole posion idencaon.
Possible consequence: irreversible damage of the motor.

Only use an inverter that is performance-matched to the motor.
Precondions
•
The wiring of the three motor phases and the motor encoder must be carried out accord-
ing to the specicaons from the mounng instrucons.
•
The inverter is ready for operaon (no fault acve).
•
For the pole posion idencaon (PPI) without movement, the motor must be at stand-
sll. In order that the pole posion idencaon is only executed at standsll, set the start
method "Flying restart circuit [2]" in 0x2838:001 (P203.01).
Details
This funcon was developed for a wide range of motor characteriscs. In case of some motor
types, the idened pole posion may dier considerably from the real pole posion, so that
a considerable loss in torque and greater motor losses may occur.
The pole posion idencaon can be executed automacally aer every inverter enable if
"Aer each enable [2]" is selected in 0x2C63:001. Further sengs are not required for this
funcon.
Process of the pole posion idencaon:
1.
Aer inverter enable, a dened pulse paern is output that provides currents up to
approx. maximum motor current. The respecve currents are measured. Based on these
currents, the eld distribuon can be detected so that the pole posion can be calculated.
This process lasts maximally 1.8 seconds.
2.
Aer the pole posion idencaon has been carried out successfully, the motor follows
the setpoint selecon.
During the pole posion idencaon:
•
The current test pulses cause audible engine noises that may be increased by the machine
mechanics depending on the mechanical coupling!
•
The funcon can be aborted by the inverter disable any me without changing the set-
tings. In this case, you have to carry out the pole posion idencaon again.
•
If the funcon is aborted by itself, the motor features may not be suitable for this funcon.
If an error occurs during the pole posion idencaon,
•
the procedure is stopped without the sengs being changed.
•
the response set in 0x2C60 is eected.
