23. Inspect the crankshaft gear (Q) for broken or worn
teeth. If the crankshaft gear does not need to be
replaced, it does not need to be removed. If the
crankshaft gear is damaged, remove the crankshaft
gear with the Flywheel Puller (PN 2871043).
24. Install the two puller bolts (R). Tig
hten the puller bolts
up so that the bolts are at equal length.
25. Install the Flywheel Puller (PN 2
871043) and remove
the crankshaft gear, if needed.
26. Rotate the water/oil pump gear
(S), so that all four
bolts are visible though the gear. Remove the four
bolts with a hex wrench. Pull out the pump.
27. Inspect the oil pump rotors for wear. Mark the rotors
with a white pe
n to ensure upon reassembly that the
correct sides of the rotors are installed and mesh with
the same edges as previously installed.
NOTE: If replacing the old rotors, new replacement
r
otors will fit into the original oil/water pump
housing.
28. Use a feeler gauge to mea
sure the clearance between
the two rotors. Measure the gap between the two rotor
tips as shown below. The clearance should not
exceed 0.006" (0.15 mm).
