3.2.11 Solenoid valves Drawing symbol illustration
Solenoid valves with a pressure connection and one or more
working connections are known as directional control valves.
They control not only the starting and stopping of the flowing
medium, but also the direction it takes between the connec-
tions. The connections are identified by numbers. Depending
on the type of connection and the solenoid system control, the
connections can be interconnected. The solenoid valves are
constructed in the form of plate fitting valves and they operate
on the stroke armature principle. The closing element (valve
piston, plunger) is pressed onto the valve seat by spring-
resistance and the pressure of the flowing medium. This
means that these valves can be installed in any position.
Function
2/2 way valve
This valve has two settings: blocked and open. Depending on
the intended purpose in the machine, the valve may also be
open when there is no current (flush valve) or closed (brewing
valve). The description below applies to a 2/2 way valve, that
is closed with no current. The closing element (plunger) is
supported in the valve body with axial movement, and the
flowing medium washes round it. A spring presses the closing
element onto the valve seat. If current flows through the coil, a
magnetic field forms which pulls the closing element into the
valve body, against the spring-resistance and the water inlet
pressure. the valve opens.
3/2 way valve
This valve has a pressure connection and two working con-
nections. When there is no current, the closing spring presses
the lower core packing onto the valve seat of the pressure
connection. Connection 1 is vented via connection 3. If the
current is passing through the coil, the closing element is
drawn into the valve body until the upper spring-bearing core
packing blocks the valve seat at connection 3. The medium
now flows from connection 2 to connection 1.
Solenoid valve (2/2 way)
This solenoid valve is closed when there is no current.
