Engine Top Side Disassembly

CAUTION

Identify the position of each removed part.
Organize the parts in their respective groups
(e.g., intake, exhaust) so that they can be
reinstalled in their original positions.
Cylinder Head Cover
1) Remove the fuel tank. Refer to “Fuel Tank Removal
and Installation” in Section 1G (Page 1G-5).
2) Remove the spark plug. Refer to “Spark Plug Cap
and Spark Plug Removal and Installation” in Section
1H (Page 1H-4).
3) Remove the TO sensor bracket bolt and nut (1).
4) Remove the cylinder head cover (2) and its gasket.
Camshaft
1) Remove the TDC plug (1) and crankshaft hole plug
(2).
2) Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise to bring the
line “A” on the magneto rotor to the grooves “B” on
the cap hole thread.
NOTE
The piston must be at top dead center (TDC)
on the compression stroke.
3) Remove the upper engine mounting bracket (LH)
(3).
4) Remove the cam chain tension adjuster cap bolt (4),
washer and spring.
5) Remove the cam chain tension adjuster (5) and its
gasket.
