HydraulicHoses
Thehydraulichosesaresubjecttoextremeconditionssuchaspressure
differentialsduringoperationandexposuretoweather,sun,chemicals,very
warmstorageconditions,inadditiontomishandlingduringoperationand
maintenance.Theseconditionscancausedamagetothehoseordeterioration
tothehosematerial.Somehosesaremoresusceptibletotheseconditions
thanothers.Examineallofthehydraulichosesofthemachinefrequentlyand
repairorreplacethemasnecessary.Hosesthatmoveduringnormalmachine
operationshouldbereplacedevery2years.Checkhydraulichosesforthe
followingsignsofdeteriorationordamage:
•Hydraulichosesshouldnotbehard,cracked,cut,abraded,charred,leaking,
orotherwisedamaged.
•Hydraulichosesshouldnotbekinked,crushed,attened,ortwisted.
•Hydraulichosecoversshouldnotbeblistered,soft,degraded,orloose.
•Hydraulichosettingsshouldnotbecracked,damaged,orbadlycorroded.
WARNING
Releaseallpressureinthehydraulicsystembeforeperformingany
workonthehydraulicsystem:
•Keepyourbodyandhandsawayfrompin-holeleaksornozzles
thatejecthydraulicuidunderhighpressure.
•Donotuseyourhandstosearchforleaks;useapieceofpaper
orcardboard.
•Hydraulicuidescapingunderpressurecanhavesufcientforce
topenetratetheskinandcauseseriousinjury.
•Ifhydraulicuidisinjectedintoyourskin,theuiddamageto
yourbodymustbesurgicallyremovedwithinafewhoursbya
doctorfamiliarwiththisformofinjuryorgangrenemayresult.
Whenyoureplaceahydraulichose,ensurethatthehoseisstraight(nottwisted)
beforeyoutightenthettings.Observetheimprint(layline)onthehosetodo
this.Usingtwowrenches,holdthehosestraightwithonewrenchandtightenthe
hoseswivelnutontothettingwiththeotherwrench;refertoInstallingHydraulic
HosesandTubes(O-RingFaceSeal)(page5–7).
Note:Ifthehosehasanelbowatoneend,tightentheswivelnutontheelbow
endbeforeyoutightenthenutonthestraightendofthehose.
