Themosteffectivemethodforisolatingproblemsinthehydraulicsystemisby
usinghydraulictestequipmentsuchaspressuregaugesandowmetersinthe
circuitsduringvariousoperationalchecks(seetheSpecialTools(page2–16)).
IMPORTANT
Allobviousareassuchashydraulicoilsupply,oillters,binding
components,loosefastenersorimproperadjustmentsmustbe
checkedbeforeassumingthatahydrauliccomponentisthesource
oftheproblem.
CAUTION
Failuretousegaugeswithrecommendedpressure(bar/PSI)rating
aslistedintestprocedurescouldresultindamagetothegaugeand
possiblepersonalinjuryfromleakinghotoil.
WARNING
Keepbodyandhandsawayfrompinholeleaksornozzlesthateject
hydraulicuidunderhighpressure.Donotusehandstosearch
forleaks;usepaperorcardboard.Hydraulicuidescapingunder
pressurecanhavesufcientforcetopenetratetheskinandcause
seriousinjury.Ifuidisinjectedintotheskin,itmustbesurgically
removedwithinafewhoursbyadoctorfamiliarwiththistypeof
injury.Gangrenemayresultfromsuchaninjury.
Beforedisconnectingorperforminganyworkonthehydraulic
system,allpressureinthesystemmustberelieved.SeeRelieving
HydraulicSystemPressure(page5–4).
CAUTION
Alltestingshouldbeperformedbytwo(2)people.Oneperson
shouldbeintheseattooperatethemachine,andthesecondperson
shouldreadtestinstrumentsandrecordtestresults.
PrecautionsforHydraulicTesting
1.Cleanmachinethoroughlybeforedisconnectingordisassemblingany
hydrauliccomponents.Alwayskeepinmindtheneedforcleanlinesswhen
workingonhydraulicequipment.Contaminationwillcauseexcessivewear
ofcomponents.
2.Beforeconductingahydraulictest,makesurehydraulicoilisatnormal
operatingtemperaturebyoperatingthemachineunderloadforapproximately
ten(10)minutes.
3.Checkcontrollinkagesforimproperadjustment,bindingorbrokenparts.
