Inspection
4. Position a new O-ring to the thermostat housing
and seat into the groove.
1. Inspect the thermostat at room temperature. If
the valve is open, the thermostat must be
replaced.
2. To check the valve opening temperature,
suspend the thermostat in a container of water
together with a thermometer. Raise the
temperature of the water until the thermostat
opens. The thermostat should start to open at
88°C +/- 5°C.
3. If the temperature at which thermostat opening
takes place is incorrect, replace the thermostat.

1. Clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder head
and thermostat housing.
2. Locate the thermostat into the head with the
jiggle pin 15 degrees to the left of the fully upright
position.

3. Rotate the thermostat until the jiggle pin is in the
fully upright position.
Note:
• When correctly positioned, the thermostat
will fit snugly into the head, the jiggle pin
will be in the twelve O-clock position and
the thermostat will not turn any further
clockwise.
1. Coring/groove
5. Locate the thermostat housing to the head,
ensuring that the O-ring does not become
detached. Tighten the fixings to 4 Nm.
6. Reconnect the top hose and secure with the
hose clip
7. Reconnect the battery, positive (red) lead first.
8. Refit the rider's seat.
9. Refill the cooling system as described on page
12.7.
