IP Routing Overview
The PowerConnect 8000/8100-series switches are multilayer switches that
support static and dynamic routing. Table 33-1 describes some of the general
routing features that you can configure on the switch.
Table 33-1. IP Routing Features
Feature Description
ICMP message control You can configure the type of ICMP messages that
the switch responds to as well as the rate limit and
burst size.
Default gateway The switch supports a single default gateway. A
manually configured default gateway is more
preferable than a default gateway learned from a
DHCP server.
ARP table The switch maintains an ARP table that maps an
IP address to a MAC address. You can create static
ARP entries in the table and manage various ARP
table settings such as the aging time of
dynamically-learned entries.
