Lets Start Recording!
The GNX4s recorder can record one or two tracks simultaneously. You can operate the GNX4s recorder
manually using the Recorder Panels buttons, or record hands-free using the GNX4s footswitches or a
GNXFC (optional).
Selecting an Input Source
To begin recording on the GNX4,it is important to select the source input using the CF/USB 1-2 SRC
button. There are multiple input sources to select from which are outlined in the GNX4 Inputs and
Recorder Routing section on page 64. The source defaults on a new song to Stereo All.
Using the Record and Playback Meters
The GNX4 has two meters located in the upper right corner of the Recorder Panel. The Record meter
can be configured to constantly look at any signals coming into the GNX4 (guitar, mic input, line inputs,
and drum/MP3 playback) and displays their level in reference to the optimum recording level. Before you
begin recording, it is wise to set the levels appropriately to optimize signal to noise. To adjust the sources
recording levels,follow these steps:
1.Play your guitar or make sure the source you want to record is playing.
2.It is best that the recording level is consistently lighting the -6dB LED on the meter and only lighting
the 0dB LED occasionally.
3.If you need to boost or reduce the level as determined by the Record meter, there are two options:
a.Increase or decrease the level of the source material.
b.Use the GNX4s CF/USB level compensation control (see steps 4 and 5).
4.If you cannot adjust the source level, press the SHIFT button and then the CF/USB 1-2 LVL button.
5.Use the DATA WHEEL to increase or decrease the level of audio until the optimum level (as
described in step 2) is achieved. The range is from -12 to +24dB.
6.Press the EXIT button.
NOTE: Since what you are hear when you record is not representative of the actual record
level going to the recorder, using the CF/USB 1-2 LVL control to boost or attenuate
levels so as to optimize them for recording will result in an increased or decreased
level during playback versus your monitor level. Use the MASTER button and
DATA WHEEL to adjust playback levels to the desired level as you record.
For more information on Optimizing Microphone and Line Input Levels, see page 13.
