Chapter 7 Installing Internal Options
7.5.5 Replacing the Failed Internal Hard Disk Unit (in the
array configuration only)
When an array system is configured with this server, a failed hard disk unit can be replaced and the
restoration can be performed without turning off the server and peripheral devices (hot swappable/hot
pluggable). For rebuilding procedures, refer to "Onboard SCSI RAID User’s Guide" and the manual
which comes with the SCSI array controller card.
Perform the replacement as follows:
1 Open the hard disk cover.
2 Locate the failed hard disk unit by checking the hard disk failure LED of each
bay.
3 Pull the plastic lever of the failed hard disk unit forward 90 degrees, pull out the
unit by only 1 to 3 cm, and disconnect it from the SCSI bus.
` Do not pull out the hard disk unit fully from the server.
4 Wait more than one minute (until the hard disk stops rotating) and pull out the
failed hard disk unit.
5 Remove faulty hard disk.
6 Insert a new hard disk unit.
7 Execute "Rebuild" or "Make Standby".
"Rebuild" or "Make Standby" may be executed automatically after hard disk unit replacement.
This can be checked from the status of the hard disk failure LED.
